QUEEN OF CUPS

Counselor

This lovely sea dream floats gracefully in the waters of emotion. She is the Queen of Cups, ruler of the ancient feelings within us. Water is her element, the symbol for the beginning of life. All of us have a queen mother in the sea and we remember her in the tides of our emotional lives. Joy, sadness, fear, and anger are the primary colors of her quilt that covers us with the subtle artwork of love, guilt, and compassion.

The Queen of Cups is the grounded center of the emotions. Her powerful fish tail represents her ability to maneuver easily in any emotional situation. She uses it to anchor herself on her anemone throne, where she feeds on the rich emotions flowing through her while still maintaining a firm grasp on a practical and sometimes painful reality. The fearsome sting of the anemone, for example; merely passes through her. She doesn't attach to the pain. Her power is such that she can absorb the emotions of those around her and filter them through her body to catch the nourishing truth in them. In this sense she plays the important role of a counselor: wise and grounded, dispensing calm compassion to those who come to her. In her ability to center herself emotionally, she releases us to explore deeper truths.

The Queen of Cups converts the turbulence of feeling into the power of the jeweled cup above her. The precious cup is her open and accepting heart. It also represents her whole body as the cup carrying the emotional legacy of the ages. lts jewels are the stars from where we came; its ring, the orbit of our emotional cycles.
